On This Day In Baseball History: April 22, 1914

Babe Ruth 2

Baltimore sent 19-year old Babe Ruth to the mound to make his professional debut pitching against Providence in the International League. The Great Bambino will go on to win 94 games as a pitcher with a 2.28 career ERA. Although he proves to be a great pitcher he’ll prove himself to be an even better hitter clubbing 714 career home runs, a record that will stand for 40 years.

    • Victor, baseball reference is correct. My initial post was incorrect in two aspects. First, he was not pitching for Boston. He threw for Baltimore. Second, it was not his Major League debut, but his pro debut in the International League.
