Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench proves he has Steve Carlton‘s number as he hits three homers off Carlton for the second time in his career. While 1973 was not the best year of his career, Bench who won the Rookie of the Year in 1968, NL MVP twice (1970 & 1972), 10 Gold Gloves (1968-1977), and be selected to 14 All-Star games, dominated Carlton during his career. He batted .305 (career .267) , had an on-base percentage of .417 (career .342) with 12 homers and 30 rbi, with 26 walks and 20 K’s.
