Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt announces his retirement. Despite his announcement fans will still vote him in as the NL starting third basemen. He was selected to 12 All-Star teams, won three NL MVPs, 10 Gold Gloves, and six Silver Slugger awards. He led the league in runs once (1981), homers eight times (1974-1976, 1980-1981, 1983-1984, & 1986), rbi four times (1980-1981, 1984, & 1986), walks four times (1979, 1981-1983), on-base percentage three times (1981-1983), slugging five times (1974, 1980-1982, & 1986), and OPS five times (1980-1982, 1984, & 1986). He is considered by many to be one of the best third basemen of all-time.
