First year Boston Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez hits a 491 foot homer setting a new SkyDome record which was set in 1995 by Oakland’s Mark McGwire. Ramirez’s homer landed in the fifth deck. Ramirez would finish the 2001 season with 41 homers, was selected to the AL All-Star team, finished ninth in the MVP voting, and won a Silver Slugger award. Manny had five season with at least 40 homers and 12 seasons with at least 100 rbi, including nine in a row (1998-2006).
