On This Day In Baseball History: June 19, 1942

Joe DiMaggio

New York Yankee centerfielder Joe DiMaggio strikes out three times in one game. It was the first and only such occurrence in his 13-year career. The three time AL MVP (1939, 1941, & 1947) struck out more times than he walked only once in his career, his rookie year of 1936. During his 1941 MVP campaign he struck out 13 times in 622 plate appearances. The Yankee Clipper was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1955.
