On This Day In Baseball History: June 25, 1999

Jesse Orosco

With his appearance in the top of the 8th inning against the Yankees, Baltimore’s Jesse Orosco sets a new Major League record for most relief appearances. Orosco passed Kent Tekulve who made 1,050 relief appearances. Orosco, ultimately finished his career with an all-time best 1,252 games pitched with 1,248 of those being relief appearances. He played for 9 teams during a 24-year career that spanned 4 decades (1979-2003). Orosco may be one of the most under appreciated players in the history of the game. Never a superstar but always reliable and effective with a career ERA of 3.16 and FIP 3.60 with a solid 8.2 K/9.
