On This Day In Baseball History: July 2, 1963

Warren Spahn and Juan Marichal

One of baseball’s most memorable games; a 16-inning game between the Milwaukee Braves and San Francisco Giants that features 7 future Hall of Famers, Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, and the two starting pitchers Warren Spahn, and Juan Marichal, each pitching 15 scoreless innings. The game was won in the bottom of the 16th on a Willie Mays home run. The two teams combined to collect only 17 hits, leave 20 men on base, hit 1 for 14 with runners in scoring position, and score 1 run in the 16-inning affair.
