Steve Garvey

 

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey becomes the first player to win multiple All-Star game MVP awards. Garvey hit a triple and a game tying two run single to push the NL passed the AL 7-3. Garvey would finish the 1978 season leading the league in games played (162), and hits (202), and finish 2nd in MVP voting.

Vida Blue

 

Another first of this game was the NL starter Vida Blue became the first pitcher to start an All-Star game for each league. He started for the AL in both 1971 & 1975 as a member of the Oakland A’s. Blue would finish the 1978 season 3rd in CY Young voting.
