Montreal Expos 37-year old Dennis Martinez tosses the 13th perfect game in MLB history. His catcher that day, Ron Hassey, becomes the first catcher to be behind the plate for two perfect games. 1991 was Martinez’s best season compiling a record or 14-11 with an NL league leading ERA of 2.39 and 9 complete games and five shutouts, both also NL bests. He would finish 5th in CY Young voing in 1991.
Texas Rangers lefty Kenny Rogers throws the 14th perfect game and the first by a lefty in Major League history. Rogers’ 1994 season, in contrast to Martinez, was otherwise unremarkable winning 11 games with a 4.46 ERA, proving you never know when or where the next perfect game will come.
