On This Day In Baseball History: August 1, 1986

Bert Blyleven

Exactly one year after the Minnesota Twins aquired Bert Blyleven the 35-year old pitcher records his 3,000 career strikeout. Mike Davis was his 3,000th victim as Blyleven went on to strike out a career high 15 Oakland A’s. Blyleven’s career strike out total of 3,701 is 5th all-time behind only Steve Carlton, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, and Nolan Ryan. Despite this, and his 287 career wins, it took the Base Ball Writers Association of America 14 years to elect him to the Hall of Fame.
