On This Day In Baseball History: August 18, 2006

Alfonso Soriano

Washington Nationals outfielder Alfonso Soriano steals second giving him a season total of 30 steals to go along with his 39 homers. With that stolen base Soriano joins the father-son combination of Bobby Bonds and Barry Bonds as the only three players in history to have four seasons of at least 30 homers and 30 stolen bases. By the end of the 2006 season Soriano would also join Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), and Alex Rodriguez (1998) as the fourth player to have 40 homers and 40 steals in a season when he hits 46 homers and steals 41 bases.
