Doug Fister

Detroit Tigers starter Doug Fister sets a new American League record when he strikes out nine consecutive Royals, one shy of the Met’s Tom Seaver‘s record ten. Fister’s first victim was Salvador Perez who was the last batter in the fourth inning. He followed that up by striking out the side in both the fifth and sixth and striking out the first two batters in the seventh when his first victim strolled back to the plate. Perez was finally able to make contact but harmlessly grounded out to short to end the seventh. Fister would finish the game striking out 10 Royals in 7 2/3 innings of work.
