On This Day In Baseball History: October 14, 1985

 

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Ozzie Smith, arguably the best defensive player of all time, hits a game winning homer in Game 5 of the 1985 NLCS, leading Jack Buck to simply say, “Go crazy, folks. Go crazy.” Smith hit 28 homers during his 19 year career and this was the first left-handed homer of the switch hitters career. Not that the Wizard needed any help but this made him a St. Louis legend.
