On This Day In Baseball History: October 16, 2003

 

New York Yankees third baseman Aaron Boone hit an 11th inning AL pennant winning home run off Tim Wakefield sending them to the World Series. That one at-bat put Boone in the same category as Bucky Dent in the tragedy known as the Curse of the Bambino, forever hated by Red Sox Nation. Boone joined Bill Mazeroski, Chris Chambliss, Joe Carter, and Todd Pratt as the only players to end a postseason series with a home run.
