Dwight Gooden

 

The New York Mets 20-year old Dwight Gooden and Kansas City Royals 21-year old Bret Saberhagen win their leagues CY Young award. Both players become the youngest CY Young winner in their respective leagues. While Saberhagen would go on to win a second CY Young in 1989 Gooden would only have 2 seasons in which he finished in the top 5 in the CY Young voting.
