Boston Red Sox 22-year old outfielder Fred Lynn wins AL MVP over Royals first baseman John Mayberry. Having already been named AL Rookie of the Year, Lynn becomes the first player in history to earn both honors in the same season. During his historical inaugural campaign he was also selected to the All-Star team and won a Gold Glove.
