St. Louis Cardinals rookie speedster Vince Coleman is unanimously selected as the NL Rookie of the Year. Coleman shattered the Major League record of stolen bases by a rookie, 72, that was previously held by Juan Samuel. He also scored 107 and hit 10 triples. His total of 110 steals would be the most during any season of his career although he would eclipse 100 in both 1986 & 1987. Coleman’s unanimous selection makes him the fourth unanimous NL selection joining Frank Robinson, Orlando Cepeda, and Willie McCovey.
