On This Day In Baseball History: December 4, 1948

Boston Braves shortstop Al Dark is selected as the Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year. Dark finished third in the NL MVP voting as well, finishing behind winner Stan Musial and teammate Johnny Sain. Dark didn’t post any spectacular stats but he did have was a solid all-around year. He scored 85 runs, collect 175 hits 39 of which were doubles, 6 triples and 3 homers to go along with 48 rbi while hitting .322.
