On This Day In Baseball History: June 30, 1995

Eddie Murray

39-year old Indians designated hitter Eddie Murray gets his 3,000 hit off of Minnesota’s Mike Trombley. Steady Eddie becomes the 20th player in history to collect 3,000 hits and joins Pete Rose as the only switch hitters to eclipse 3,000. Murray also joins Carl Yastrzemski, and Dave Winfield as the only three players to accomplish that feat without having 200 or more hits in a single season. They will later be joined by Rickey Henderson. He will be elected into the Hall of Fame in 2003.
